A Dog-Friendly Intimate Wedding at Turquoise Lake & Printer Boy Campground | Leadville, Colorado

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings that leave you feeling like you witnessed something truly sacred.

Hannah and Justin chose to celebrate their wedding surrounded by everything that matters most to them: the Colorado mountains they fell in love in, their closest family and friends, their two beloved dogs, and a weekend where everyone could slow down, gather together, and simply enjoy being present.

Nestled high in the Rocky Mountains, Turquoise Lake in Leadville, Colorado, provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding that felt less like an event and more like an unforgettable adventure.

Their story began right here in Colorado, where they met and built a life together. When it came time to propose, there was no better place than Telluride. On a perfect powder day in February, surrounded by fresh snow and endless mountain views, they became engaged while skiing. Their wedding reflected that same adventurous spirit from beginning to end.

One of the reasons I loved photographing this wedding so much was how intentionally they planned the entire experience for their guests. Rather than inviting everyone to a single evening celebration, they created an entire wedding weekend.

The reception was held at Printer Boy Campground in Leadville, where guests could camp beneath the stars while the couple enjoyed the comfort of a beautifully furnished glamping tent. It created an atmosphere that felt relaxed, joyful, and deeply connected—exactly the kind of celebration that encourages meaningful conversations around twinkle lights long after the music ends.

Because both Turquoise Lake and Printer Boy Campground are dog-friendly, their pups were able to be part of one of the most important days of their lives.

Before the ceremony, Hannah and Justin shared a quiet first look with their dogs by their side. Watching them embrace while their four-legged family excitedly joined the moment was something I’ll never forget.

Afterward, the two slipped away into the woods to exchange private vows.

Away from the guests, surrounded only by towering pines and the peaceful sounds of the forest, they promised forever to one another. It was intimate, emotional, and a beautiful reminder that some of the most meaningful moments happen when no one else is watching.

When it was time for the ceremony, we climbed aboard a shuttle that carried guests to the ceremony site overlooking Turquoise Lake.

As everyone settled into place and the ceremony began, something extraordinary happened.

An eagle soared gracefully overhead.

It circled above the ceremony as if it had arrived exactly when it was supposed to. Every guest noticed. It was one of those moments that simply can’t be planned, yet somehow felt perfectly timed.

The ceremony itself reflected the incredible community surrounding Hannah and Justin.

Before exchanging rings, every guest was invited to hold them for a moment, offering a blessing, prayer, or quiet wish for their marriage. By the time the rings reached the couple, they had quite literally passed through the hands of every person who loves them most.

While the rings were passed around the officiant pulled shared a parabole about a twisted carrot he found in his garden. Two carrots that had grown together beneath the soil, intertwined so completely they could no longer be separated. He held it up as a reminder that love often grows in the same quiet way: slowly, steadily, and almost unnoticed until one day two lives have become so deeply woven together that they are stronger as one than they ever were apart. It was a beautiful metaphor.

As the ceremony came to a close, family and friends formed a blessing circle around the newlyweds, surrounding them with encouragement, love, and support as they stepped into this new chapter together.

It was one of the most moving ceremony endings I’ve had the privilege of witnessing.

The day was also filled with quiet reminders that the people we love remain with us, even when they can’t physically be there.

Hannah’s sister wore their mother’s jewelry throughout the wedding, carrying a tangible piece of her with them during every joyful moment. It was a simple gesture that spoke volumes and beautifully honored her memory.

Following the ceremony, we wandered down to the shoreline of Turquoise Lake for portraits.

Then, almost unbelievably, the eagle returned.

As we photographed the two of them against the stunning alpine backdrop, it soared overhead once again, almost as if it had come back to offer one final blessing. We all laughed that it must have been an invited guest because it appeared at exactly the right moments throughout the day.

Whether coincidence or something more, it became one of those unforgettable memories that will forever be woven into their wedding story.

As the sun dipped behind the mountains, everyone returned to Printer Boy Campground, where the celebration continued beneath the smoky sky. Friends lingered around picnic tables, and laughter echoed through the campground.

An entire weekend centered around love, family, friendship, and the incredible Colorado landscape that brought these two together in the first place.

As a Leadville wedding photographer and Colorado adventure wedding photographer, these are the celebrations that inspire me most. Weddings that embrace the outdoors. Weddings where dogs are part of the family. Weddings filled with genuine emotion instead of rigid timelines. Weddings where every detail reflects the couple’s story.

And every once in a while…

An eagle shows up to remind everyone that some moments are simply meant to be.

welcome

Intimacy and adventure is what I am all about. I absolutely love families who are just fun, who are real and let it fly.  I want to see you!  They don’t mind if they get their dress dirty. They may be down for a short hike and are not afraid of getting in the water at the end of your session, you are my people. They don’t mind if things don’t go perfectly and that is just perfect.

The best parts of life are the parts that surprise us, and the best photos are usually the ones we didn’t know were coming.
